EP 001: I'm Building a Bitcoin Pleb Citadel.
Welcome to the project. Glad to have you along for the ride.
The citadel is an idea first.
You hear the common refrain amongst Bitcoiners, “We’re so early.“
And it’s true by any metric. Look at the on chain data, the market capitalization, the size of businesses in the ecosystem, the adoption at the local and state level.
By all measures we are early.
VERY early.
I bring this up because it conveys a certain necessity.
The necessity is for each and every one of us, from whatever background, life situation, country, creed, or race, to participate in the building of what comes next in the Bitcoin ecosystem.
The human outpouring of Bitcoin into the stuff of life.
No longer are the days when only a programmer, cypherpunk or tech bro could dive into Bitcoin and fully gratify themselves on the earth shaking technology. Now we have marketers, ops gurus, educators, and entrepreneurs flooding the beaches and hunting for the optimal place to plant their flag and contribute to what is now being built on the social level of bitcoin, the level of the house, the home, the community, wherever that is.
This is where I come in.
Hi, I’m RW.
I’ve spent the last 10 years in the startup ecosystem in New Orleans, and recently relocated (~18mo ago) to the Front Range in Colorado.
I’m in the fortunate position to be happily married, well employed, and producing content for pleasure and education on my own time (See: Bikes and Bitcoin).
I am also in the position of selling a property I owned in New Orleans and have set the intention to build a Bitcoin Citadel with the proceeds.
So where are you headed?
To be frank with you.
I don’t know where this journey will lead, but I envision the process will go something like the following:
Preliminary discussions around what exactly a citadel could and should be.
Research into specific options per location/type (whether that is land, programs to utilize, partnerships to generate, I don’t know).
Preliminary purchases/agreements/arrangements.
Building out of full Citadel facilities.
Citadel operations (I hope you’ll visit)
Why are you doing this?
To be frank again.
I don’t see anyone else doing it around me on the Pleb scale, and I know it’s possible.
I want to, through this Newsletter, help to write the preliminary roadmap for building a Pleb Citadel.
In a Bitcoin powered future (which I believe we’re headed towards), we should have a framework for the first principles of building the Citadel at any scale.
And because this is an open source, decentralized community, by sharing what I learn in a way that is highly digestible and accessible to the community, I believe I can help make at least some small dent into improving how Bitcoiners everywhere live their lives in the world that is to come.
I’m excited to have you along for the ride.
