I spent five hours on the bike…
And while my butt may be a bit sore from the last few hours in the saddle (also my visor is a total mess from the bugs right now), I’ll let you know it was worth every second.
The plan for the day was to head up to Cheyenne, WY and take a couple of new Bitcoiner friends out for lunch.
These new friends (I’ll share a bit more about them in coming updates, but for now, want to respect their privacy), have loads of experience in real estate/hospitality, as well as government programs (read: incentive programs) as a way to minimize liabilities around properties (read: decrease taxes and increase revenues).
They’re currently in the process of building their own Bitcoin Citadel, but at a scale that isn’t feasible for many Plebs.
I approached them with the idea that I’d like to learn what I can from their process, and apply it to Pleb level Citadel Building.
Of course, they were more than happy to share.
So We Ordered Hot Dogs and Sat Down
I pulled out my notebook and asked them to review the first draft Domains of the Citadel.
I’ll remind you of the first draft:
Location
Energy access and Consumption
Food
Defensibility
Community
Production
POSSIBLE DOMAIN: Speculative Attack
Their first two critiques were as follows, “Defense must be #1,“ and “You’re missing something huge, water. (Also, medical needs to be somewhere in there.)“
Their next bit of feedback was regarding number 7, the Speculative Attack, and can be summarized as follows:
All of the domains are held together by the Speculative Attack. Fundamentally, we are going to use existing systems that have been in place for ages (e.g. the fiat lending system, government subsidies, tax incentives, renewable programs), to build our Bitcoin Citadel in a way that outlives those systems without relying on them in any way.
After a bit of playing with the formatting, we can re-organize the Domains of the Citadel into the following framework:
Defend: (i.e. Location)
Water
Food
Energy
Housing
Medical
Advance: (i.e. Speculative Attack)
Production
Connection
Community
Do you see it?
In building a Citadel our first priority should be to defend, our second priority should be to advance.
This naturally eliminates certain Citadel options (or makes them very impractical).
You can’t (currently) build a sovereign Bitcoin Citadel in central Manhattan, because you can’t defend all of your resources.
The suburbs are slightly easier for defense, remote land even better.
I left the lunch with my head spinning while they took me through much of their rationale and process in citadel building.
As we departed they promised to send along resources, which I’ll translate for Pleb use and begin to introduce here when the time is right.
I got back on the bike, and by their suggestion, headed up to Laramie to scout land, and to enjoy the ride down 287 towards home (see rough image below).
An incredible day of riding and citadels.
The next task is to disentangle some of the resources they’ve shared with me, and begin to scale them down to a functional Pleb level.
Till the next update, I hope you’ve enjoyed this one, and I’m excited to tell you what comes next! (Hint: I’m looking for agents and lenders)
Fellow Bitcoiners. I’m doing this project just for the enjoyment, and I’m sharing it with you so you can begin your own Citadel, wherever that may be.
It would mean a lot for you to share this newsletter and to subscribe!
